Every project needs a name, even a temporary one. It doesn’t need to be commercially perfect — it just needs to capture the idea and make me smile.
Some of the contenders:
- Catena — Latin for “chain”: a chain of encounters and shared knowledge, and it starts with “Cat”.
- Catlas — an atlas of cats.
- Catkin — cats connected through relationships.
- WhiskerNet, Nine Lives Network, and the wonderfully literal Who’s This Cat?
- Straybook — I like it, but it sounds like a Facebook spin-off, and that’s pretty much the opposite of what I want this to be.
In the end I settled on the simplest one: Stray Cats.
Everyone knows straight away what it’s about. It doesn’t pretend to know what the finished product will be. And I like the irony in it: we call the animal a stray cat, but this whole project might end up showing that it isn’t really stray at all. It has a whole network of humans, places, names and relationships around it.
So, Stray Cats it is — for now. If you have a better name, tell me.
